Winter Fishing.

South Fork Root River Headwaters.

Having a good map helps. Having a great map is even better however having the right map makes all the difference in the world.

Knowing the distance that you intend to fish, where the access and roads are, and what the terrain looks like when venturing out onto the creek in the Winter makes for a safer day on the water.

Although I do not expect the crowds on the creeks I intend to fish this winter, I do expect to cover some water that I have yet to touch.Pennsylvania opening day crowd.

Using Google Earth’s “Add Image Overlay” function has assisted me with having the appropriate data on my GPS before leaving the house. This takes the guess work out of it by having precise maps as the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources standard issue map will get you to the water but leaves you with the, “Now what and how far is it?!”
