2008-06-25_BerryHunting

We have had some reports that the Black Raspberies are ready to be picked. We headed to Stone Circle in search of those berries. We found the berries at the base of the bluff to be further along than the ones higher on the bluff. The dogs enjoyed the climb up the crag in the [...]

Boundary Waters 2008.

After a bit of time spent fanagling with my photo album scripts I got it to work again. Here are the photos from the week spent in the North Woods where we traveled over 20 miles by canoe and paddle and canoe and sail. I will have a story to go with the photos soon.

The water is still high and the fishing is awesome! We went out in Brad and Vanessa’s boat tonight and did well enough to have a dinner of fresh fish with Walleye and Catfish as the main course.

Today I talked Shell into steering the canoe as I fished for some bass. We put in at Mud Lake, east of Winona. It is a spring fed lake full of fish. We were treated to a wonderful sunset. The fishing was great. Lots of medium sized bass for the dinner table. The Flag Iris [...]

Tonight the Mississippi River water boiled with White Bass. Nearly every cast presented me with a fish landed. I was throwing a #9 silver Rapala over the wing dam where the minnows that the bass were eating were stacked up. I am not as accustomed to landing bass with crank baits in their mouths as [...]

Today, Stino and I made our way to Crow Spring Brook in search of Brookies. We found none however we saw a bit of surface activity. The weather was unstable and we enjoyed our short amount of time on the water.

Today Stino called me and talked me into going for some trout. We headed to Stockton. The fish were in their usual haunts and were taking large nymphs that were swam as emergers, caddis dries, pink labs, and flash back PT’s. We took several dozen fish in a few hours without walking more than a [...]

Today was a great day as we had six canoes and ten riders. We launched at Rushford’s canoe landing. We parked the take out vehicle at Vinegar Ridge. It was a nice fast paddle that took about two and a half hours to float. It featured a few pieces of a silo that was leftover [...]

Today I returned to my favorite spot to hunt morels. I brought my dogs with today. They love to climb the crag and to run through the Oak, Elm, Hickory, and Maple forest that is thick with ferns. I have been taking my dogs Mushroom Hunting because I have read numerous stories that would lead [...]

Today Bella and I hit the creek. We needed a break from selling crap at our garage sale. I shot some video and took a few photos. The fishing was great. I caught numerous Brown and Rainbow trout on deep nymphs. The wildflowers were in full bloom including Phlox and Trillium.

2008-05-17_ZumbroRiver

Today we had ten to hit the river. For some, it was our second day this week on the water in a canoe. Our destination was the Zumbro River between Theilman and the Kruger Recreation Area. I am excited to say that we found a patch of blooming Trillium alongside the road to the launch [...]

Contest Entries?

I have been digging through my photos from 2007 and pulled these two up last night. I am interested to see how they do amongst the myriad of image contest on message boards and forums throughout the country.

2008-05-15_Morel Hunting

I ended up with four in my car today, including myself. We climbed from the valley to the ridge searching for Morels through the Elms and found none. The Wild Colmbine are now staring to bloom. I found more Shooting Star’s and Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Solomon’s Seal is starting to bud. It should be blooming within the [...]

Mikey has the bug. He was ready to take the 8-weight out and hook more Horse. We headed to the bridge on Garvin Brook and were into fish immediately. My deal was to get some video of me catching a Shorthead and a Silver. We finished filming in less than 20 minutes. Mikey took over [...]

2008-05-13_GarvinBrook

Today Mikey and I decided that we could catch more Redhorse in Minnesota City. We also had a plan to hook up with Master Baiter from River Angling to find a decent carp and buffalo spot. I phoned Brad to let him know we would be in our usual haunt. We met up in Minnesota [...]

2008-05-11_Morel Hunting

Amy, Nate, and I decided to go climb a bluff to see what was happening on the south slope of it in the Elm Trees in search of Morels. We found that the ferns are still unfurling, the wood rue are still blooming, and more, we found a few shooting stars blooming. All in all [...]
