Today the Root River is high and muddy. I noticed considerably fewer visable islands in the river on my morning commute. It will take some time to recover from this particular run-off event however the stream flow station shows that the river is receding. Rain is forecast this week which may affect the normalizing of...

The snow started to melt over night which made the Root River rise and stain. The stain is more prevalent below the confluence of the South Branch and the North Branch. The snow will continue to melt into tomorrow likely contributing to a higher and muddier creeks. The creeks that clear quickly should be in...

A record snowfall blew through yesterday coating the landscape with six inches of fresh snow. As of today the creeks in the county are still running clear however I suspect that by Monday we will be seeing the stain of snow run off.

Creeks in Fillmore County are in good shape today and were largely unaffected by last night’s thunderstorms. Creeks are continuing to clear. The southeast region was spared from the winter storm which blew through the northern part of Minnesota. The Driftless was subject subject to snow squalls that blew through quickly. I found remnant caddis and mayfly nymphs on rocks deep in runs this evening. Most of the silt has been...

Fillmore County creeks and rivers have been receding over the past few days. Anglers have been reporting that the afternoon toss of stream bed is still common place on many spring creeks. I have heard no talk of hatches in over two weeks. Jigs have been winning the most opportunities to creel trout. I am...
